The best food tour in the world right now, according to TripAdvisor's 2026 Travellers' Choice Awards, is a three-hour stroll around Reykjavik where you eat Icelandic hot dogs, local cheeses and ice cream at half a dozen spots — everything from food trucks to fine dining. Not bad for a city better known for geysers and whale watching.

The awards, built entirely from traveller reviews and ratings from the past 12 months, split into food tours and wine/beer tours. Europe cleaned up on both lists. The Reykjavik Food Walk came first overall, followed by a Tuscany wine tasting tour from Florence — a half-day trip to wine estates with olive oil, cheese, cured meats and a full Tuscan lunch or dinner thrown in.

The food tours list reads like a greatest-hits of eating cities: Lisbon's Undiscovered Food & Wine Tour takes silver, Amsterdam's ten-tastings cultural tour is third, and further down you'll find street food in Osaka (15 tastings and three drinks, apparently), tapas in Barcelona, a twilight crawl through Rome's Trastevere, and a Peruvian food tour in Lima. Athens, Split and Paris fill out the rest of the top ten.

On the drinking side, a Cape Town wine tour through Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch took the global number one spot, beating the Tuscany entry into second. The Douro Valley — two wineries, lunch and a river cruise from Porto — grabbed third, and a Maipo Valley tour from Santiago came fourth. Europe still dominates: a historic pub tour in Prague, wine tasting in Mykonos and Santorini, a day trip from Florence into Chianti and San Gimignano, vineyards outside Madrid and Toledo, and a walking tour of London's royal historic pubs.

TripAdvisor also ranked restaurants this year across fine dining, hidden gems and plant-based categories, and added a new 'viral right now' list of trending spots — London's Dishoom, Banh Mi Huynh Hoa in Ho Chi Minh City, and Cremeria Santo Stefano in Bologna all made the cut.

Why does this matter for trip planning? Because these are experiences people actually reviewed highly, not editorial picks — and most are half-day or evening tours that slot easily into an existing itinerary. If you've already booked Iceland, Portugal or Tuscany for next year, the top-ranked option in each is a safe bet for a memorable food day. And if food is the whole point of your trip, the lists double as a ready-made shortlist of destinations where eating out genuinely is the main event.
