If your idea of a Maldives trip involves more than a sun lounger, Amilla Maldives in the Baa Atoll has just named the experts who will anchor its autumn 2026 wellness programme at Javvu Spa — and the line-up covers everything from acupuncture to hypnotherapy.
First up is Dr Lim Xiang Jun, founder of Singapore's The Modern Traditional Doctor, who has more than two decades of experience blending Traditional Chinese Medicine with Western science. She is in residence until 9 October 2026. Every guest can book a free 15-minute Holistic Health Discovery consultation to work out which therapies suit them. From there, the menu is broad: integrative health coaching drawing on BaZi astrology and elemental analysis, Tuina acupressure massage, Chi Nei Tsang abdominal bodywork, moxibustion, fire cupping and acupuncture (from USD 188++ per session), plus breathwork, Qigong, Reiki, sound healing and Tibetan Mantra therapy. There are also facial options — facial acupuncture, Gua Sha and Dien Chan reflexology — and cheaper add-ons such as ear seeding or Ayurvedic herbal oil infusion at USD 88++.
From 13 to 31 October, Dr Tridendra Shakya, a medical doctor with 18 years in holistic medicine, takes over. His programme leans towards sleep, spine and detox: a 120-minute Sleep Well package for insomnia and snoring, hypnotherapy and Yoga Nidra sessions (USD 260++ each), acupuncture for pain management, weight loss or facial rejuvenation, and Acu-massage at USD 310++. Posture-focused guests can try spinal care, therapeutic yoga or the two-hour Yin N Pin needle-and-stretch therapy (USD 389++), while the more adventurous might opt for Vedic sinus cleansing or a yogic detox, both priced at USD 429++.
Javvu Spa itself mixes Eastern and Western techniques with Dhivehi Beys — traditional Maldivian herbal treatments using ingredients grown in the resort's own Mystique Garden. Rates start from USD 1,501++ a night for a Water Pool Villa based on two sharing.
Why it matters: residencies like these turn a standard island escape into something closer to a health retreat, and the pricing is transparent enough to plan around. If you have a specific issue — poor sleep, chronic tension, a nagging back — the two doctors' specialities are genuinely different, so your dates should follow your goal. Book a stay in early October for TCM-led treatment, or mid-to-late October for the medical, sleep-and-spine focus.
