It's been a good stretch for Maldives resorts on the awards circuit, with four properties picking up recognition spanning pastry competitions, family travel gongs and World Travel Awards honours.

Reethi Faru Resort has celebrated three medals won by its kitchen team at two culinary competitions. Chef Rohit Kabdal took Gold in the Decorated Cake category at the Hotel Asia Culinary Challenge, while Chef Abhishek Sharma earned Bronze in the Hot Cooking Fish section. Over at the FHAM Global Culinary Challenge, Chef Mayank Bijalwan secured Silver for Dress the Cake. The resort says competition entry is part of a broader push on dining quality and chef development — a decent signal for anyone booking a food-focused Maldives trip.

Family travel is where much of the action is. RAAYA by Atmosphere, on a private island in Raa Atoll, was named Best Family Resort in the Maldives at the Travel Time Awards in Moscow — its second consecutive win after taking Opening of the Year 2024. The resort, which opened in July 2024 with 167 beach and overwater villas, leans on a whimsical castaway storyline about a shipwrecked artist and an all-inclusive-style plan covering dining and activities. Its growing profile in the Russian market was underlined by actress Katerina Shpitsa presenting the trophy during her stay.

Kuda Villingili Resort, just 30 minutes by speedboat from Malé's airport, was Highly Commended for Best Long-Haul Family Stay at the UK's Family Traveller Awards 2026, voted on by the public after shortlisting by family travel journalists. Its pitch to multigenerational groups is practical: 75 private-pool villas with multi-bedroom layouts featuring separate entrances plus internal connecting doors, so grandparents, parents and kids share a base without sharing every moment. There's a kids' club with its own beach on a shallow lagoon, a 150-metre pool with shallow zones, beginner surf lessons at the Baby Chickens break, and complimentary dining for under-12s across eight restaurants.

At the luxury end, THE OZEN COLLECTION took two World Travel Awards titles at the 33rd edition of the event. OZEN RESERVE BOLIFUSHI won Maldives' Leading Luxury Hotel Villa for the fourth year running — its Royal RESERVE villa spans 3,000 square metres with a private beach, spa treatment room, butler and personal chef. Sister property OZEN LIFE MAADHOO in South Malé Atoll was named Indian Ocean's Leading Villa Resort for the second time, thanks in part to its INDULGENCE plan covering seven restaurants, excursions and spa, plus the atoll's first underwater restaurant, M6m.

Why does any of this matter if you're planning a trip? Awards are imperfect, but they're useful shorthand. If family logistics are your headache, Kuda Villingili and RAAYA are being independently flagged for getting it right; if the trip is a milestone splurge, the OZEN properties are consistently ranked among the region's top villas. And Reethi Faru's medal haul suggests its kitchens are worth taking seriously beyond the standard resort buffet. Either way, the Maldives' competitive resort scene keeps pushing quality up — good news for travellers picking between dozens of near-identical-looking islands.
