A business credit card with no annual fee, a $750 welcome bonus and zero foreign transaction fees is a rare combination — and Capital One's Spark Cash Select bundles all three. For small business owners who put travel spending on plastic, it's worth a closer look.
The headline offer is $750 cash back after spending $6,000 in the first three months, which is unusually generous for a card that costs nothing to hold. Ongoing, it earns a flat 1.5% cash back on everything with no caps or bonus categories to track, plus 5% back on hotels, vacation rentals and rental cars booked through Capital One's Business Travel portal. Employee cards are free, and rewards don't expire as long as the account stays open.
The real trick for travellers, though, is what happens to that cash back. Pair the Spark Cash Select with a Capital One card that earns miles — such as the Venture X or Venture Business — and every cent of cash back can be converted into one Capital One mile via the "Move Rewards" feature. Those miles transfer to more than a dozen airline and hotel programs at a 1:1 rate, which effectively turns this into a no-annual-fee card earning 1.5x transferable points with no foreign transaction fees. The $750 bonus, on that maths, is worth up to 75,000 miles.
The foreign transaction fee point deserves emphasis. Most no-fee cash back business cards — including Chase's Ink cards and Amex's Blue Business lineup — charge around 3% on overseas purchases, which erases any rewards instantly. Amex's Blue Business Cash offers a stronger 2% rate, but it's capped at the first $50,000 spent each year and carries foreign transaction fees, making it a domestic-dollar card only.
Who should skip it? Heavy spenders. The reviewer's benchmark is $30,000 a year: above that, the Spark Cash Plus — with a $150 annual fee (refunded if you spend $150,000 annually), 2% cash back and a much larger $2,000 welcome offer — comes out ahead. The fee effectively pays for itself once you cross that threshold.
For the right profile — a small business with modest card spend, occasional international purchases and no appetite for annual fees — the Spark Cash Select is hard to beat. And if you already hold a Venture card, it doubles as a low-cost mile-earning engine. It won't suit everyone, but as free business cards with travel perks go, this one earns its place on the shortlist.
