If your holiday itinerary leans on Holiday Inn Expresses as much as Six Senses resorts, IHG One Rewards is the loyalty scheme quietly working behind the scenes. The programme covers the whole IHG Hotels & Resorts family — InterContinental, Kimpton, Crowne Plaza, Hotel Indigo, Candlewood Suites and more — and a recent deep-dive from The Points Guy breaks down how its five elite tiers, two premium memberships and nightly Milestone Rewards actually fit together.

The basics are straightforward. Signing up makes you a Club member with member rates, free internet and a shot at 2 p.m. late checkout. From there, status climbs by elite qualifying nights: 10 nights for Silver (plus a 20% points bonus), 20 nights or 40,000 qualifying points for Gold (40% bonus, Hertz Gold+ Five Star and night rollover), and 70 nights or 120,000 points for Diamond — the tier that brings a 100% points bonus, Hertz President's Circle and a welcome choice of free breakfast for two, points, or a drink and snack. Platinum sits in the middle and, notably, comes bundled with an InterContinental Ambassador membership.

Here's the shortcut most travellers miss: credit cards can fast-track you past those night counts. IHG's own card grants automatic Silver, the Premier card grants Gold, and big annual spending on the Premier or Select cards — or on Chase Sapphire Reserve cards, which currently offer complimentary Platinum enrolment through the end of 2027 — can unlock Platinum and even Diamond without ever counting your nights.

The InterContinental Ambassador membership deserves a second look if that brand is your pick. It costs $225 or 45,000 points for a 12-month term and includes a guaranteed one-category room upgrade, 4 p.m. late checkout, a complimentary weekend night at InterContinental properties and Platinum status. At Six Senses, members get daily breakfast for two, a wellness welcome amenity and an upgrade when available. TPG's verdict: it can still be worth buying even if you already hold Platinum, purely for the upgrades and free weekend night. Diamond-level Kimpton regulars, meanwhile, may earn an invite to Kimpton Inner Circle, which adds waived amenity fees, guaranteed early check-in and 4 p.m. late checkout.

One more layer: Milestone Rewards. Hitting 20 qualifying nights in a calendar year lets you choose between 5,000 bonus points, two $20 food-and-beverage rewards or a confirmable suite upgrade, with further picks at 30, 40 and 70 nights. If you're a heavy IHG guest, these elections can matter more than the status perks themselves.

Why should a holidaymaker care? Because award nights are priced dynamically — the same room can cost wildly different points depending on date and demand — so stacking status perks, Milestone picks and card benefits is often where the real value lies. TPG currently values IHG points at 0.6 cents each, which is a useful benchmark before you burn them. Casual guests can simply join for free and grab member rates; frequent travellers should do the maths on a card or the Ambassador membership.
