Greenport Village, at the northeastern tip of Long Island's North Fork, has a new place to sleep. Oyster Estate has opened its doors, a 34-key boutique hotel created by Blue Flag Capital and run by its in-house management arm, Collared Martin Hospitality. The property is a full reimagining of the former Greenporter Hotel, a longtime local fixture whose structure remains, though almost everything a guest experiences has been reworked.

The design, a collaboration between Blue Flag and Islyn Studio, takes its cues from the historic bay houses dotted along the Long Island coast. Wood does a lot of the heavy lifting, appearing as framing, furniture and built-ins throughout. The palette borrows from the shoreline: clay tones, weathered greens, salt-softened stone. There are some genuinely local touches too. Flowers picked around Greenport are dried and pressed into the lobby tiles, a hay plaster ceiling nods to the nearby salt marshes, and the ceramics come from a local maker.

Rather than one formal lobby, the hotel unfolds as a set of lived-in rooms, with books, found objects and plants giving things a residential feel. The central courtyard, patio and outdoor pool act as the social hub. In the rooms, expect Parachute Home linens and robes, Salt & Stone bath products, Tivoli Bluetooth speakers, Fellow kettles and complimentary coffee and tea, plus in-room minibars.

The big draw for non-guests arrives later in September: Fortune Favors, the hotel's signature cocktail bar, restaurant and listening room. Its look shifts gears entirely, with saturated colours, low lighting and an artist's-workshop spirit. The kitchen serves Asian-inspired dishes through a Greenport lens, while a dedicated Listening Room pairs vinyl spun on a purpose-designed sound system with the food and cocktails.

For Blue Flag, this is a busy year on Long Island's East End. Oyster Estate is the company's third opening there in 2026, following Hotel Corduroy in Montauk and Faraway Sag Harbor on the waterfront, with Faraway Jackson Hole in Wyoming extending the portfolio into mountain country. Co-founder and CEO Jason Brown said the goal was to understand what makes the North Fork special and build something genuinely connected to how people live and travel there today.

Why it matters for travellers: Greenport has quietly become one of the most appealing escapes from New York City, with wineries, oyster farms and a walkable maritime village, and this opening adds a design-forward option that isn't a tired summer rental. It suits couples on a wine-country weekend, city dwellers after a low-key coastal break outside high season, and anyone who likes their hotel bar to come with a record collection. Book early for summer weekends; shoulder season is when the North Fork really shows its best side.
