The Hyatt Regency Vilamoura has rolled out a new afternoon tea menu that swaps some of the usual British trimmings for local Algarve flavour. The Algarvian Afternoon Tea launched on October 9 and runs daily from 4pm to 6pm in the hotel's Lume Lounge Bar — and you don't have to be staying there to join in. Outside guests are welcome too.

The menu leans on the classic format — teas, scones and open sandwiches — but with a few regional touches, most notably Algarve orange cake alongside the hotel's Garden Series tea selection. There are three ways to order it. The Classic Experience starts at €20 for one person or €30 for two and covers the basics. The Modern Twist (€25 solo, €35 for two) adds a signature cocktail. And Tea & Bubbles, at €30 or €40 for two, pours a glass of Veuve Clicquot Yellow Label with your spread.

For frequent Hyatt guests, there's a perk worth knowing: World of Hyatt Globalist members get The Classic Experience as a member benefit.

The hotel says the idea is to weave regional ingredients and local culinary traditions into its dining, appealing to both holidaymakers and Algarve residents. That fits the setting — the property sits near Vilamoura Marina, the beach and several of the region's top golf courses, with 257 rooms and suites, multiple restaurants, wellness facilities and more than 1,000sqm of event space. Reservations can be made by email.

Why bother? Vilamoura's afternoon options tend to hover between beach bars and golf clubhouses, so a sit-down tea with a Portuguese twist is a handy change of pace — a good pick for a rest day between rounds, a rainy-afternoon fallback, or anyone travelling with a tea ritual to maintain. Prices are reasonable by five-star-hotel standards, and the 4pm–6pm slot makes it an easy bridge between a day out and dinner. The €40-for-two champagne option, in particular, works out cheaper than many hotel champagne teas back in the UK.
