Banyan Tree Samui and Banyan Tree Krabi have kept their Two MICHELIN Keys in the MICHELIN Guide to Thailand for the third year running — the hotel equivalent of the restaurant world's two-star rating. Inspectors who visit anonymously judge whether a property is genuinely "exceptional", looking at character, design and service, so a repeat win matters in a market crowded with five-star openings in southern Thailand.
The Krabi property sits on the quiet end of Tubkaek Beach, with limestone karsts rising out of a marine national park offshore. MICHELIN's inspectors flag it as a place built for restoration: since October 2021, both resorts have run a Wellbeing Sanctuary programme that folds daily yoga, meditation, Thai boxing, sailing lessons, nature walks, spa treatments and nutrition consultations into a regular holiday. Guests booking the Wellbeing Sanctuary villas and suites also get access to the Rainforest, a hydrotherapy circuit with vitality pools, steam rooms, saunas and ice fountains.
Food is the other draw. At Banyan Tree Samui, the hilltop restaurant Saffron has been recommended in the MICHELIN Guide itself for two years, serving refined Thai cooking — prawns wrapped in crisp rice noodles, pomelo salad with tamarind, and a slow-braised Wagyu Massaman as the signature. Krabi's Saffron is reached by electric funicular and hangs above the Andaman Sea, with three "Bird's Nest" tables set among the trees that are worth booking for afternoon tea or sunset drinks alone.
Both resorts were also recognised for community and environmental work: marine conservation projects around Koh Samui, backing for Krabi's local fisheries, and a ban on single-use plastics.
For travellers, this is a useful shorthand. If you're choosing between Thailand's many luxury resorts and want an independent, inspector-vetted verdict, Two Keys signals a property that performs at the top level year after year — not a one-off. The pairing also works as a two-centre trip: Gulf-of-Thailand beaches on Samui, Andaman karst scenery in Krabi, with the same wellbeing programme and Rainforest facility at both.
