Delta is squeezing five new or revived nonstop routes into its October schedule, and they tell you a lot about where the airline thinks demand is heading — Utah's canyon country, California wine country, Bermuda, Saudi Arabia, and the Texas-to-Silicon-Valley tech corridor.
The earliest launch is Salt Lake City to Moab, Utah, starting October 1 with a daily SkyWest CRJ550. Delta has tried this one twice before (2014-2015 and 2021-2023) and it will pause again on November 30 before returning in March. If you've ever wanted easy access to Arches and Canyonlands without the four-hour drive from Salt Lake, this is your window — literally, since it's seasonal.
October 6 is the busy day. Delta starts Austin-San José with a daily A319, its first time on the route, where it goes head-to-head with Southwest. This is a serious market: over 223,000 round-trip local passengers flew it in the year to June 2026, and fares rank among the highest of Austin's big markets thanks to tech-sector premium demand. The same day, Delta moves its Bermuda service from JFK to LaGuardia with four weekly A319s — a route it has served twice before. It also launches Salt Lake City to Santa Rosa's Sonoma County airport twice daily on SkyWest E175s, a brand-new airport for Delta and a direct door to wine country. Avelo flew the pairing in 2024/2025, but this is the first Delta service.
The boldest addition lands on October 23: Atlanta to Riyadh, three weekly A350-900 flights boosted to daily in the first week. It's Delta's first Saudi route and comes backed by funding from the Saudi Air Connectivity Program — though the article notes some doubt over whether the flights will actually materialize, so check before booking.
Context matters here. Delta plans 5,096 daily movements across its network in October, up 1.4% year-over-year, and its Austin operation is booming: a record 121 daily movements, up 9% on last October and more than double 2019 levels. Austin has jumped from Delta's 37th-busiest airport to its 11th. In California, the Sonoma launch takes Delta to 14 airports in the state, with October movements at a record 584 daily.
For travellers, the practical wins are clear: a seasonal shortcut to Moab's national parks, direct wine-country access from Salt Lake City, Bermuda from a more convenient Manhattan-area airport, and a rare nonstop between two booming tech cities. The Riyadh link, if it flies, opens Saudi Arabia from Delta's biggest hub without connecting through Europe or the Gulf carriers. Book early on the Moab and Sonoma routes — regional jets mean limited seats, and the season is short.
