Europe will stay the world's cruising playground in 2027, and the new season's line-up shows just how varied the format has become. Alongside the usual Mediterranean heavyweights, operators are pushing harder into Northern Europe, the Balkans and slow, culture-first river sailings — with shoulder-season departures increasingly popular among travellers chasing milder weather, thinner crowds and better value.
In the eastern Mediterranean, Viking's nine-night Empires of the Mediterranean runs from Venice down the Croatian coast to Koper and Zadar before hopping through Dubrovnik, Kotor and the Greek islands to Athens, with departures March to October. Scenic's 14-night Eastern Europe & Balkans Unveiled with Turkey is the wildcard: a Lower Danube cruise from Budapest to Istanbul that layers Belgrade, Vukovar and Bulgarian river towns with land stops at Istanbul, Çanakkale and Gallipoli.
Crystal goes boutique in the Aegean. Its eight-night Civitavecchia to Piraeus sailing on Crystal Symphony, departing 26 April, skips the marquee ports for quieter choices like Ponza, Syracuse, Zakynthos and Spetsai — a good fit for anyone who wants atmosphere over spectacle.
Western itineraries stretch further afield in 2027. Viking's Italy, Africa & Iberia Discovery (14 nights, departing 1 June) links Venice, the Dalmatian Coast, Naples, Rome, Tunis and Valencia before finishing in Barcelona, with 12 guided tours built in. For something slower, Uniworld's Venice & the Jewels of Veneto is a nine-night round-trip focused entirely on northern Italy — after-hours access to St Mark's Basilica, Burano, Chioggia, plus wine-country and culinary excursions through Verona and Padua.
River cruising's flagship remains Scenic's 14-night Jewels of Europe, the Amsterdam-to-Budapest classic through five countries, running May to October with an all-inclusive model. Princess covers the big-ship end: Sun Princess sails both a 13-night Barcelona-to-the-eastern-Med sweep (September–October) and a quick six-night western Med loop, handy if you're stitching a cruise into a longer Europe trip.
Northern Europe gets the boldest entries. Crystal's 54-night Lisbon to Reykjavik voyage, departing 28 June, traces Europe's entire Atlantic edge through Iberia, France, the British Isles, Scandinavia and Iceland — essentially a full summer at sea. Viking's Into the Midnight Sun (14 nights, May–August) sails from Bergen to London above the Arctic Circle, calling at Geiranger, Tromsø, the Lofoten Islands and Honningsvåg before finishing via Shetland, Orkney and Edinburgh. And for land-lovers, Uniworld's Savor Northern Italy runs 13 nights from Milan to Venice, taking in Lake Maggiore and a Dolomites cable-car ride.
The takeaway for 2027: pick your style first. Big-ship travellers get Princess's breadth; river cruisers get depth in Italy or Central Europe; and small-ship lines like Crystal trade passenger counts for quieter ports. Booking early matters — several of these sail on fixed departure dates rather than open seasons, and the extended voyages fill quickly.
