Europe's biggest rail pass just got a whole lot cheaper. Interrail has kicked off its largest promotion ever, slashing up to 50% off selected long-duration Global Passes, with every other pass in the range discounted by 15%. The catch: the sale runs for just seven days, ending Wednesday 30 September 2026.
The Global Pass is the heavyweight option — unlimited train travel across up to 33 European countries on a single ticket, with complete freedom over routes and timing. During the sale, shorter-duration Global Passes and One Country Passes (handy if you're settling into one place, like Italy or Switzerland) also carry the 15% discount, and second-class passes are included.
Here's the bit that makes this more than a last-minute scramble: you don't have to travel straight away. Passes can be activated up to 11 months after purchase, meaning you can lock in the discount now and use it for a trip well into 2027. That's ideal if you're dreaming about next summer rather than booking this weekend.
There are further savings baked in for some travellers. Anyone aged 60 or over, or between 12 and 27, gets a reduced fare, and up to two children aged 4 to 11 can travel free with a paying adult — a genuine plus for family trips where train travel beats wrangling airport transfers.
The timing is no accident. The promotion follows Interrail's global rebrand from Eurail and its new campaign, 'The Interrail Effect', which champions slow, immersive travel — lingering in villages you never planned to visit, staying an extra day because a place got under your skin. Interrail's chief brand and commercial officer Ozlem Birkalan framed the sale as a nudge to explore Europe's diversity rather than sprint between capitals.
Why should you care? Long-duration passes only pay off if you actually travel long. If you've got several weeks — or a couple of months — to cross the continent, a half-price Global Pass transforms the maths on a big European trip. Overnight trains can also double as accommodation, shaving hotel costs off the itinerary. If you only have a fortnight, a shorter pass or the 15% discount might be the smarter buy. But with the 11-month activation window, the sale lets even undecided travellers bank the cheapest price now and figure out the route later. Just remember the deadline: once 30 September 2026 passes, so does the discount.
