Four Maldivian resorts have picked up international and local accolades in recent weeks, and together they map out how different the country's island stays have become — from strictly grown-up hideaways to go-kart tracks for the whole family.

You & Me Maldives, in Raa Atoll, was named Best Adults-Only Resort at the TTM Awards & Gala 2026, held at CROSSROADS Maldives on 27 August as the 10th edition of the Travel Trade Maldives event wrapped up. The resort is marking seven years in operation and has built its reputation on privacy-first stays for couples, honeymooners, friends and solo travellers, with romance, wellness and food at the centre of the experience. General Manager Mohamed Imthiyaz called the award a reflection of his team's work and hinted at new activities and services to come.

JOALI Maldives, meanwhile, retained its One MICHELIN Key — a nod to its identity as the country's first art-immersive resort. Artworks and installations sit across the island, guests can get hands-on at the Ceramics Studio, and dining is treated as a creative act in itself. Crucially for families, it isn't adults-only: the Muramas Kids Club runs programmes around four themes (Create, Play, Discover, Move), so grandparents, parents and children can all find something. It's a rare case of an art-forward resort that genuinely welcomes every generation.

Design lovers have reason to look at Finolhu in Baa Atoll, part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The Seaside Collection resort won Best Design Resort in the Maldives at the Global Destination Awards by World Fashion Channel, announced in Moscow. London studio Muza Lab conceived its look — bold colours, expressive patterns and natural textures across 125 villas, bars and restaurants — and the resort leans into its "Island Playground" persona with a year-round programme of art, sport, wellness and gastronomy, plus a two-kilometre sandbank and the barefoot Crab Shack.

And for families, Kandima Maldives won the Family Activities & Entertainment category at the UK's Family Traveller Awards 2026, decided by a journalist shortlist and thousands of public votes. Kandima has spent years pushing back against the Maldives' honeymoon-only image: it has the country's longest and fastest go-karting circuit (Fast Track), a gaming and VR entertainment hub called PlaySpace, escape rooms, and new additions like a running club and foraging and farm tours. An Adventure Park with outdoor challenge zones is planned next.

Why it matters: the Maldives is often caricatured as one note — overwater villa, honeymoon, done. This cluster of awards shows the spread. If you want a child-free escape, You & Me is the current benchmark; if you travel with kids or grandparents, Kandima and JOALI prove you don't have to compromise; and if aesthetics drive your bookings, Finolhu is the most design-led option in Baa Atoll. Matching the resort's concept to your travel style matters more here than almost anywhere.
