A spa in the Scottish Borders has now claimed the title of Scotland's Best Hotel Spa at the World Spa Awards two years running, taking the 2025 and 2026 honours back to back. The spa sits inside SCHLOSS Roxburghe, a five-star golf resort in the Borders countryside, and pairs an outdoor heated infinity pool with wide views over rolling farmland — a setting that clearly impressed the awards judges two years in a row.
For anyone plotting a late-autumn or winter escape, the spa sells three half-day packages, all including use of the facilities and fitness suite plus robes, towels, slippers, water, fruit and herbal teas. Replenish is the short option: a 60-minute slot with an express facial and a back, neck and shoulder massage for £195. SCHLOSS Restore steps up to 90 minutes — an Inner Calm full-body massage plus a facial — at £225. Revive is the two-hour indulgence, combining the Inner Calm massage with an Inner Beauty facial for £265. Two things worth noting before booking: weekend visits (Friday to Sunday) add a £25 surcharge and finish at 15:00, and treatments are for guests aged 16 and over. All packages can also be bought as vouchers, which makes a tidy gift.
There is more to the resort than the treatment rooms. Sunlaws, the hotel's fine-dining restaurant, is the only place in the Scottish Borders holding three AA Rosettes, and chef Dan Ashmore builds his tasting menu around the estate's own larder — think Orkney scallop, turbot with Skye prawns, St Brides duck and a whisky-themed dessert to finish. Golfers get a championship course rated among Scotland's top 10 inland layouts, with the par-five 'Viaduct' hole as the signature. And after the round, Bar 1745 runs guided whisky tastings from a shelf of more than 300 bottles.
If you want to make a night of it, double rooms start at £230 per night with breakfast and spa access thrown in — which makes the packages or the pool considerably easier to justify.
Why it matters: Scotland has no shortage of spa hotels, but a repeat win puts this Borders estate firmly on the wellness shortlist, and the combination of golf, whisky and a serious kitchen gives non-spa travel companions plenty to do. It suits couples after a restorative weekend, golf trips with a spa detour, or anyone who wants a low-effort, high-comfort escape from Edinburgh without a long drive.
