Gamers will soon be able to sleep in the Overworld for real. Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios have announced the world's first official Minecraft hotel, set to open at Chessington World of Adventures in Surrey in 2027 — a companion to the Minecraft theme park land already in development at the same site.
The hotel will feature around 69 themed bedrooms: 49 standard rooms plus 20 premium options, all designed to make fans feel like they've stepped inside the game. Plans also include an immersive restaurant and a woodland mansion-inspired potion bar for drinks after a day in the park.
It's part of a bigger Minecraft push at Chessington. The new themed land will feature real-life versions of the game's environments — the Overworld, the Nether and caves — alongside a block-building zone for younger visitors, interactive activities and themed dining. The headline ride has now been revealed too: Escape the Nether, a high-speed indoor rollercoaster that winds through dark mine tunnels before bursting out of a Nether portal into the Overworld, with surprises supposedly waiting around every turn.
Both Mojang and Merlin are talking up the detail work. Mojang's creative lead for Minecraft Parks and Experiences, Filip Keatley Thoms, has said the team has obsessed over everything from the scale of the blocks to how mobs and biomes translate into physical space. Merlin's creative producer Daisy Mercedes promises guests will quite literally 'sleep inside' the game.
One thing still missing is an official opening date — only the year 2027 has been confirmed so far for both the hotel and the park land. Anyone planning a Chessington trip before then should know that booking tickets online in advance can cut up to 50 per cent off on-the-gate prices, with short-break deals often available too.
Why it matters: this is the first Minecraft accommodation anywhere in the world, and it turns Chessington into a genuine two-day destination for gaming families rather than a single day out.
