Wasl 51 has quietly become one of Dubai's most interesting dining pockets, and its newest arrival is already all over social feeds. Aatish is a live-fire restaurant built around a simple idea: recreate the standout flavours four friends discovered on their food travels around the world.

The men behind it call themselves the Strong Boys — a nickname with a funny origin story involving being catcalled — and they bring serious credentials. Reza Namazi and Amin Ebra run Iranish, Alex Augusti is behind Just Food, and Abdul Hakim is head chef at The Meating Room. There's no fuss or formality here, just an open kitchen, constant grilling, and a painted map of their culinary adventures on the wall. Reviewers say the smell of grilled meat hits you before you've even sat down.

The menu reads like a scrapbook of those trips. The Hawker's Sup Kambing (Dhs55 for two) is a gently spicy lamb soup inspired by a Singapore hawker stall the friends loved so much they went back the next day. Sinan's Sizzling Prawns (Dhs65) honours the food tour guide who showed them around Istanbul, arriving in a garlicky butter and red chilli sauce that's made for mopping up with onion bread. The Psychedelic Lamb Chops (Dhs130) are the smoky showstopper, while the T-Rex bone marrow (Dhs120) — fire-roasted and served with marrow sauce and onion jam — is the dish built for photos that actually tastes as good as it looks.

Service gets a warm write-up too: attentive and friendly without hovering or rushing you out the door.

For travellers, this is exactly the kind of dinner worth planning an evening around. It suits anyone bored of Dubai's glossy fine-dining formula and after something with personality — food cooked over fire, rooted in real places, at prices that won't wreck the holiday budget. A full spread of prawns, lamb chops and bone marrow lands around Dhs315 before drinks, which is reasonable for the quality.

Aatish is open Tuesday to Sunday, 1pm to midnight, at Wasl 51, and you can reach them on 056 387 8876 or via @aatishdubai. Book ahead or arrive early on weekends — newly opened spots with this much social buzz fill up fast.
