Bilt started life as a way to earn rewards on rent — long the biggest bill nobody could put on a points-earning card. It has since grown into a full transferable points currency, and its redemption menu now spans 25 travel partners, a travel portal, and even a home downpayment option. Knowing which route pays off makes a real difference: the spread between the best and worst uses is nearly threefold.

The standout option is transferring points to Bilt's airline, hotel and rail partners — 17 airlines, seven hotel programs and, as of a recent addition, Amtrak Guest Rewards. Most transfers are 1:1 and instant, and the partner list is arguably the strongest of any US points program. Hyatt fans should pay attention: World of Hyatt only partners with Bilt and Chase Ultimate Rewards, and Hyatt points stretch far at high-end properties. Alaska Atmos Rewards is another exclusive — no other major currency transfers to it — and it unlocks solid redemptions on oneworld carriers plus Condor and Starlux. Emirates Skywards and Japan Airlines Mileage Bank are similarly hard to top up from other programs.

A few ratios deviate from 1:1. Accor runs at 3:2, though that can still work out well since 2,000 Accor points equal €40 of stay credit — meaning 3,000 Bilt points knock €40 off a hotel bill, a respectable cash-out. Marriott Bonvoy adds a 5,000-point bonus per 20,000 transferred in the right increments. Preferred Hotels transfers at a generous 1:2. Amtrak, the newest partner, is the weakest at 2:1 — and with Amtrak points worth roughly 2.7 cents, that's only about 1.35 cents of value per Bilt point.

If transfers feel like too much effort, Bilt points are worth a flat 1.25 cents each in the Bilt Travel Portal for flights, hotels, cars and activities. A more unusual option: redeem points at 1.5 cents each toward a downpayment on a home — a nice touch for a program built around renting, even if it's niche.

Then there's what to avoid. Paying rent with points gets you a dismal 0.55 cents each. Amazon purchases, fitness classes and the Bilt Collection of merch all land at 0.7 to 1 cent. Booking BLADE helicopter flights through the portal is also poor (0.7 cents) — use Bilt Cash for that instead.

On the earning side, Bilt's three Cardless-issued cards include a no-fee option and the $495 Palladium card, which earns 2x points on all spending plus up to 4% back in Bilt Cash that can be converted into points on housing payments. The author of the source guide reckons that combo nets over 3x points per dollar on everyday spending.

One more tip: Bilt runs monthly Rent Day promotions, often with transfer bonuses — sometimes sweetened further for elite-status members. Many savvy redeemers simply hold their points until a bonus lands, then transfer. If you're chasing premium cabin seats or luxury hotel nights, that's the play; if you just want simple value, the travel portal is a fine fallback. Just don't ever pay rent with your points.
