Hilton has given its boutique-style Curio Collection a Hawaiian flagship: Hale Hōkūala Kauaʻi, a 210-room resort inside the Hōkūala Resort community on Kauaʻi, overlooking Nāwiliwili Bay and Kalapakī Beach. The name translates as "House of the Rising Star," and it's the first time the Curio brand — built around individually distinctive hotels — has appeared anywhere in the islands.
The design team (Hart Howerton and AHL on architecture, Looney & Associates on interiors) worked the setting into the building itself: open-air walkways among mature monkeypod and banyan trees, private lānais, floor-to-ceiling windows and rooms colour-coded to the blues of the bay, the greens of the valleys and the earth tones of the coast. There are 23 suites, and views run from the Pacific to Hāʻupu Mountain and the Jack Nicklaus Signature Ocean Course at Hōkūala.
The food programme is the most distinctive part. Figueira, the signature restaurant above the course's 18th hole, is billed as Kauaʻi's only Portuguese-Hawaiian dining concept — a nod to the Portuguese immigrants who shaped island cuisine. Expect Portuguese Fisherman's Stew, bacalhau no forno, pastel de nata and malasadas, plus Pineapple French Toast with Kuleana Rum caramel. Poolside, The Wiliwili covers the classics: poke bowls, plate lunches, shave ice and pūpū. Both concepts came out of StiR Creative Collective, Hilton's in-house F&B studio.
Culture isn't an afterthought either. The resort's E Ala Ka Pilina programme was developed with local practitioners, historians, artisans and nonprofits, with the Kauaʻi Museum as its first partner. Future sessions will cover lei making, traditional aquaculture, hula, agriculture and Hawaiian storytelling, alongside off-property excursions.
For travellers, the practical draw is location. The resort sits near Līhuʻe Airport — unusually convenient by Kauaʻi standards — and makes a comfortable base for day trips to Hanalei Bay, the North Shore, Waimea Canyon and Kōkeʻe State Park. Guests get preferred tee times on the Ocean Course, over five miles of trails, complimentary bicycles, beach gear, plus access to a spa, tennis and pickleball in the wider Hōkūala community. There's also more than 14,000 square feet of event space if you're planning a wedding or retreat on-island.
To mark the opening, a Kauaʻi Island Escape package takes 25 percent off the best available rate on stays of three nights or longer, and the property earns and redeems Hilton Honors points like any Hilton. If you've been waiting for a points-friendly, non-cookie-cutter option on Kauaʻi's east side, this is now the obvious one to price up — source: Breaking Travel News.
