The Perpetual Journey, Patina Maldives' rolling programme of art, food and wellness residencies at its Fari Islands resort, has unveiled its next batch of dates, and the line-up mixes serious names with a distinctly Maldivian thread.
On the local side, the Fari Art Atelier continues its creators-in-residence partnership with Art Gallery Malé. After June and July residencies by Ahmed Khaleel and Hassan Najih, artist Aishath Shuaila takes over the studio from 22 September to 10 October. Rather than a static display, her space works as an open studio, so guests can watch her paint, join workshops and chat as she works. Her style, all vivid colour and bold brushwork, draws on a background in sustainable development and puts Maldivian flora and fauna front and centre.
The bigger international booking lands from 18 October to 8 November: London-based artist Shezad Dawood wins the first ever Patina Art Residency. He'll spend three weeks doing fieldwork around the island's marine ecology for a piece responding to this year's theme, Fluid Worlds, continuing a decade-plus practice collaborating with marine biologists.
Families get a look-in too. From 25 to 29 October, FC Bayern Munich coach Jonas Caryot runs a five-day football camp for kids aged six to 17, with up to five hours of small-group training a day and two rest days built in.
Food and drink fans are well served. Yardbird, the cult Hong Kong izakaya, brings its Yakido pop-up to Brasa from 6 to 10 October, plus a Veli Bar appearance by Max Levy's pizza project MR. IKO and movement sessions with Lindsay Jang. Then comes the Diwali centrepiece, 7 to 9 November: Atul Kochhar, the first Indian chef to win a Michelin star, brings a Kanishka-style menu to Helios, while bartender Giancarlo Mancino pours guest-shift cocktails and Bangalore DJ Sakré blends South Indian cinematic sounds with lo-fi electronics.
Wellness runs through it all. Holistic therapist Jasmin Küster offers aquatic bodywork and Chi Nei Tsang from 14 September to 14 October; Japanese wellness founder Minako Saito brings her Platinum Ritual thermal treatments from 15 October to 15 November; breathwork practitioner Thalia Jones returns from mid-December to mid-January.
The Perpetual Journey isn't the only game in the Maldives this season, either. Over at Kuredhivaru Resort and Spa, a Japanese-Peruvian cocktail dinner lands on 26 September, Oktoberfest arrives 3 October with pork knuckle and pretzels, and Halloween runs 30 to 31 October with pumpkin carving and a kids' fashion show. Soneva, meanwhile, has stacked its Soneva Stars calendar through 2026, including astronaut Tim Peake hosting stargazing at Soneva Fushi from 19 to 29 December, footballer Andy Cole, tennis stars Baghdatis and Khachanov, facialist Sarah Chapman and a string of guest chefs.
If a Maldives trip has felt like the same overwater-villa template lately, this season's residencies add genuine reasons to pick one resort over another, whether you want to paint beside a local artist, train your kids like Bayern youth players, or eat Michelin-starred Indian food as the fireworks go up. It's worth checking the dates before booking rather than after.
