On the ground, Plaza Premium Group was named best airport lounge group, while the individual lounge prize went to the Chase Sapphire Lounge at New York LaGuardia. Taiwan's STARLUX Airlines won World's Cleanest Airline for the first time, ahead of Singapore Airlines and ANA.
For Australian flyers, Qantas made the global top ten only in First Class (ninth), finishing 13th for Premium Economy and 14th for Business. Its cabin crew ranked 18th worldwide but won the Australia/Pacific regional title, as did its cabin cleanliness. On the budget side, AirAsia won World's Best Low-Cost Airline for a 17th straight year, Scoot ranked second and took the long-haul low-cost prize, and Jetstar was named Australia's best low-cost carrier and second in the long-haul category. The rest of the overall top ten: ANA, Turkish Airlines, Emirates, Air France, Hainan Airlines, Japan Airlines and Korean Air.
The practical takeaway: if a specific cabin experience is what you're paying for, these awards are a decent shortcut. Long-haul in Premium Economy? EVA Air is the crowd favourite.
