Booking a food tour, a Gaudí skip-the-line ticket or a day trip along the coast in Barcelona will likely cost you less than the same kind of experience anywhere else in Europe's big tourist cities. That is the takeaway from a fresh analysis by booking platform Voooya, which crunched 'from' prices for 461,760 tours and activities across the 50 cities with the largest offers worldwide.

The median price for an activity in Barcelona comes out at €95, comfortably below second-placed Madrid at €107 and well under the European heavyweights: Prague (€130), Istanbul (€134), Amsterdam (€138), Rome (€165), Lisbon and Venice (€169 each) and Paris (€170). At the pricier end of the European table sit Athens (€199), London (€202), Naples (€214) and Sorrento (€279). Barcelona also has plenty to choose from, with around 2,900 bookable activities, though Rome dwarfs everyone on the continent with 7,898 options.

Globally, €111 is the typical cost of a guided tour, day trip, attraction ticket, cruise or class. Southeast Asia and Egypt are where your activity budget stretches furthest: Ubud in Bali tops the value table at a median of €44, followed by Hurghada (€52), Hoi An (€54), Seminyak (€59), Da Nang (€62) and Siem Reap (€63). In Hurghada, more than one activity in three costs under €30. Cairo quietly offers the biggest catalogue on the planet — 9,881 activities — at a median of just €71, matching Marrakech (€70).

There are outliers in the other direction. Arusha in Tanzania (€1,366), Nairobi (€467) and Kathmandu (€442) look wildly expensive, but that is largely because multi-day safaris and treks pull the median up, not because a city walking tour costs a fortune.

Price is not the same as satisfaction, though. Among activities with at least ten reviews, Kathmandu scores the highest average rating at 4.94 out of 5, with New Delhi (4.93), Arusha (4.92), Ubud and Siem Reap (4.91 each) close behind. Paris (4.61) and Cancún (4.47) rank lowest — a reminder that famous names do not guarantee memorable experiences.

For anyone building an itinerary, the practical read is straightforward. If your trip budget hinges on paid experiences rather than hotels or flights, Barcelona is arguably Europe's best-value major city right now. And if you want maximum value per euro worldwide, a Southeast Asia or Egypt trip lets you fill your days with tours and excursions for pocket money — with the added bonus that travellers rate those experiences among the best anywhere. Worth noting the methodology: prices were captured on 3 October 2026 from listings supplied by Viator, a Tripadvisor company, so figures are a snapshot rather than a guarantee, and medians can shift with exchange rates and seasonal listings. Even so, the gap between €95 in Barcelona and €202 in London is wide enough to shape where you book your next city break.
