Paris Fashion Week got an unexpected soundtrack this week. Celine Dion appeared at the end of L'Oreal's annual runway show on Monday, walked out beneath the Eiffel Tower in a black gown, and launched into "I'm Alive", her 2002 hit, to a delighted crowd. It was one of the most glamorous openings on the fashion calendar, and nobody saw it coming.
She wasn't alone for long. The Canadian singer was joined mid-performance by a line-up of L'Oreal ambassadors that read like an awards ceremony seating chart: Viola Davis, Simone Ashley, Aja Naomi King and Eva Longoria all shared the runway moment.
The surprise gig fits a bigger picture. Dion has been making a much-publicised return to performing, and Paris is at the centre of it. She's mid-way through a 26-show run in the French capital, with 16 dates spread across September and October and another 10 scheduled for May 2027. For fans who missed out on this autumn's tickets, the May dates are the obvious second chance — and worth planning a Paris trip around.
The timing is good for visitors in town right now, too. Paris Fashion Week, showcasing the women's spring-summer collections, runs until October 6. Dior, Tom Ford, Schiaparelli and Givenchy are still to present, so there's a genuine chance of celebrity-spotting at front rows around the city — Dion included. Even without show invites, the week transforms the city: pop-up events, brand activations and a generally electric atmosphere in the 1st, 8th and 16th arrondissements where most of the action happens.
Why it matters for travellers: this is Paris at its most theatrical, and the Dion residency means autumn 2026 and May 2027 both come with a built-in reason to visit. Pair a concert date with the tail end of the cultural season — museums are open, terraces are still pleasant in September, and the crowds of high summer have thinned. If fashion is your thing, note that the major houses' shows cluster around the Tuileries and Palais de Tokyo; you don't need a ticket to feel the energy, just a coffee on a nearby terrace and a bit of patience.
