Singapore's most storied café has a new address. Chatterbox, the dining institution born inside the Hilton in the 1970s, has opened an outpost at Resorts World Sentosa, and it's the brand's most ambitious effort yet — bigger menu, indoor and outdoor tables, and a merchandise counter selling plushies and T-shirts for fans who want a souvenir with their supper.
The kitchen covers both the classics and dishes you won't always find at the flagship on Orchard Road. Chilli crab is on the menu here, made with fresh, meaty Sri Lankan mud crabs, alongside stir-fried prawns in palm sauce. For anyone who's only ever known Chatterbox as a quick chicken-rice stop, this is a fuller restaurant experience.
That said, the star hasn't moved off centre stage. The Mandarin Chicken Rice — steamed free-range chicken with rice fragranced with chicken fat — has been on the menu for more than five decades and remains the reason most people queue. The restaurant even suggests pairing it with its signature Chatterbox Punch cocktail if you want the full house experience.
Save room for dessert, too. The Peranakan kuehs, including Sago Bandung and Sarang Semut, are made fresh daily, giving the meal a properly local finish rather than a generic sweet.
For travellers, the Sentosa location changes the logistics pleasantly. Instead of trekking into the city, you can slot a proper Singapore food pilgrimage into a day at the theme parks or the beach, and the outdoor seating makes it an easy family dinner after an afternoon on the island. It's also a low-stakes intro to Peranakan-influenced dishes if chilli crab feels intimidating — start with the chicken rice, then work your way up.
