Downtown Phoenix has a new anchor for its ongoing revival: Denū Hotel & Spa, which just opened as part of The Meritage Collection from Pacific Hospitality Group. It's the group's first full-service independent hotel in Phoenix and the broader Southwest, and it's positioning itself squarely around wellness rather than just a place to sleep.
The headline feature is Solstone Holistic Spa, a co-ed, hammam-inspired space built around ancient bathing traditions and desert-inspired design — sculpted stone, warm neutral tones and softly lit rooms. Guests can book guided thermal rituals and immersive treatments, and the wellness push carries through to the rooms: recovery gear like red-light therapy mats, weighted blankets, sound therapy machines and compression boots are all available for in-room rental. There's also a 24-hour gym, a dedicated yoga studio with classes, and a rooftop pool with skyline views.
The hotel has 236 guestrooms and suites aimed at both business and leisure travellers, plus 23,000 square feet of event space spread across 18 venues — a clear play for the nearby convention centre crowd. Dog owners take note: the hotel welcomes four-legged companions.
Food leans into modern Sonoran cuisine, mixing Arizona desert ingredients with Latin and Mediterranean influences. Four outlets cover the day: Sartén Kitchen, the signature all-day restaurant named after the Spanish word for frying pan, a nod to cast-iron cooking; the Lobby Bar with tableside martinis and barrel-aged spirits; Nidos Rooftop Bar, pairing Latin-Mediterranean small plates with cocktails, live music and retro disco DJ sets after dark; and Blend Café, a street-level third-wave coffee spot with pastries and grab-and-go wellness bites.
The name Denū nods to a local term meaning "Valley of the Sun," and the architecture draws on the surrounding desert. Location-wise, it sits steps from major transport hubs, the convention centre, and the city's arts, sports and entertainment venues — handy whether you're in town for a Suns game, a conference or a weekend of museums and tacos. For travellers, this fills a real gap. Phoenix has long been known for its desert resorts out in Scottsdale and Paradise Valley, but downtown lacked an upscale, design-forward stay you could walk out of and into the city's restaurants and venues.
