When Dubai's weather cools, the city moves outside — and that includes the movies. A new season of open-air cinema is kicking off across Dubai, with rooftop screenings, family film nights and poolside screenings on the calendar. Here's what's on and where to book a beanbag.

**Vox Moonlight, The Galleria Mall.** Vox's seasonal rooftop cinema at The Galleria on Al Wasl Road is a single open-air screen framed by the Dubai skyline. It runs full cinema-grade kit — Dolby 7.1 surround sound — and you can order from a wide food and drink menu without leaving your seat. Previous seasons offered two-person private cabanas, loungers, couches and beanbags with footrests, so expect similar seating when it relaunches. Reopening dates haven't been announced yet, but it usually lines up with the cooler months, so keep an eye on Vox's site.

**Cinema Akil at 25hours Hotel Dubai One Central.** This is the indie film crowd's pick. Cinema Akil made its name at Alserkal Avenue with a proper vintage theatre; the 25hours Hotel outpost swaps walls for scaffolding and a signature bright red, an open-air setup that nods to Dubai's endless construction sites. Expect curated, film-festival-style programming rather than blockbusters. It's reopening soon.

**Cinema Under the Stars, JLT.** The family option. Every Saturday from October, Cluster Q in Jumeirah Lake Towers screens family-friendly films — past line-ups included Kung Fu Panda 2, Wicked and Coco — on a big outdoor screen from 7.30pm. Entry is easy on the wallet: a beanbag and popcorn upgrade costs Dhs30, and you register for a spot in advance. Bring the kids, bring a picnic mindset.

**CineMama at Mama Shelter, Business Bay.** The playful hotel brand turns its rooftop into a casual screening space with films, food and drinks served alongside city views. You can watch from beside the pool, which makes it less a cinema trip and more a very good evening out.

Why it matters: outdoor cinema is one of the cheapest, most social ways to enjoy Dubai between roughly October and April, when daytime heat gives way to pleasant evenings. The JLT screenings are a no-brainer for families at Dhs30 a pop, Vox Moonlight suits a date night with proper cinema tech, and Cinema Akil is the move if you want films you won't find at the multiplex. Just note that two of the four — Vox Moonlight and Cinema Akil — haven't confirmed reopening dates yet, so book the JLT or Mama Shelter nights first if you're visiting soon.
