A rainy-day fix is on the way for Guam. PowerUP, a 26,000-square-foot family entertainment centre at Micronesia Mall in Dededo, is expected to open in early December, and it's shaping up to be one of the biggest indoor play spaces on the island.

The lineup is genuinely varied. There are 12 bowling lanes kitted out with new QubicaAMF equipment, a Sky Trail ropes course topped off with a 60-foot zip line, and a 4,000-square-foot indoor go-kart track running eight electric mini karts — a rare rainy-day option in a tropical climate. An arcade with modern games rounds it out, plus a concessions area and bar serving shareable snacks and drinks.

A few practical touches stand out for visitors. PowerUP plans to stay open after the mall's regular closing hours, so it works as an evening plan, not just a daytime stop. Two party rooms can be reserved (handy for birthdays or group trips), there's seating for around 100 people at tables and booths, and bookings can be made online with a reloadable card system for games and attractions.

The business side matters locally too. Parent company Goodwind Development Corp., led by president and CEO Jeselyn "Gigi" Tan Yu, is positioning PowerUP as both a new entertainment option for residents and tourists and a jobs creator. A hiring fair runs October 10 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Micronesia Mall, Space 121/122 near Center Court, with full-time and part-time roles from general manager to attractions staff.

Separately, FHP Home Health passed an unannounced Medicare recertification survey in June with full compliance, with reviewers citing strong marks in patient safety and emergency preparedness.

For travellers, the takeaway is simple: if you're visiting Guam with kids or a mixed-age group and the beach weather turns, PowerUP gives you a proper indoor backup — bowling, karting, zip line and arcade all under one roof, with late hours once the mall shuts.
