A day club you can reach by speedboat from an international airport is a rare thing, and that is exactly what S Hotels & Resorts has opened at SAii Lagoon Maldives, Curio Collection by Hilton. SunRay Social & Swim Club, launched this week inside the CROSSROADS Maldives complex, is a fifteen-minute boat ride from Velana International Airport — which means even travellers not staying on the island can drop in for the day.
The concept is deliberately built around daylight rather than nightlife. The daily schedule runs in four phases: First Light kicks things off with sunrise yoga and beach bootcamps; Morning Drift brings Aqua Flow pool workouts, floating pickleball and lagoon snorkelling; Peak Sun leans into poolside water polo, volleyball and mobile karaoke; and Golden Hour wraps the day with beach games, family sandcastle contests, a traditional Boduberu drum ritual as the sun sets, then acoustic and DJ sets into the evening.
Food is built for sharing beside the pool. The menu includes breadfruit crisps, Phuket lobster arancini and Maldivian-style pizza straight from the oven, plus a dedicated handcrafted gelato bar. Drinks follow the sun theme — the frozen negroni is the one the launch crowd gravitated towards, and it is easy to see why in that heat.
The opening was marked with a proper party, including a performance by Heytvalla Boduberu, who pair traditional Maldivian drumming and chanting with expressive dance. SunRay has already rolled out at SAii Koh Samui Villas, and a third installation is planned at SAii Laguna Phuket before the end of the year, making this a small but growing brand-wide concept rather than a one-off.
The pricing is the headline for day visitors. Passes start at USD 30 net per adult, and that includes the return speedboat transfer from the airport jetty plus 30% off food and drink while you are there. Full-day dining packages run up to USD 140 for those planning to make a proper afternoon of it.
Why it matters: the Maldives has a reputation for being either a splurging resort stay or nothing at all. SunRay carves out a middle path — if you are transiting through Malé, staying at another property in the CROSSROADS area, or simply want a taste of island life without committing to a multi-night booking, a sub-$40 day pass with transfers and a discount on food is genuinely good value. Families get a structured programme that runs from sunrise to sunset, so there is little risk of bored kids by mid-afternoon, while couples can skew towards the snorkelling, cocktails and sunset drumming. Anyone flying long-haul into Velana with a long layover could realistically store the idea of a frozen negroni and a pool afternoon as a smarter alternative to an airport lounge.
