Inglewood, one of Calgary's oldest neighbourhoods, is turning the whole month of October into a Halloween event. Haunted Historic Inglewood runs from Oct. 1 to 31, 2026, with a packed programme of ghost tours, paranormal investigations, pub walks and family activities spread across the district's historic 9th Avenue SE strip.

With more than 150 years of history, Inglewood has plenty of material to work with. The line-up leans into it. Standout events include a Zombie Makeup Class on Oct. 5 ($20) that preps you for the neighbourhood Zombie Walk; a horror-themed speed-friending night at the Potion Room on Oct. 7 ($10 plus fees); and a four-hour after-dark paranormal investigation of the historic Alexandra School with Ghost Hunt Alberta on Oct. 9 ($90 plus fees). The same evening, Calgary Ghost Tours runs a Haunted Inglewood Pub Walk from 8 to 10 p.m. ($26 adults, $15 youth).

Later in the month, Ninja Tiger hosts "Reunion with Murder" on Oct. 25 — an interactive murder mystery with dinner and a drink included ($70 plus fees). If you'd rather explore solo, the organisers publish a walking tour guide mapping out the area's most haunted buildings, including the Deane House, the Alexandra Centre, Fire Station No. 3 (now the Hose and Hound), the former Zoo Bridge and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church. There's no fixed start point, so you can wander at your own pace.

Food and drink are covered too. Participating cafes and restaurants — among them Mowglis, Doughnut Party, Rosso Coffee Roasters, Analog Coffee, Canela, Gravity Cafe, Deane House and The Nash — will serve fall drinks and seasonal treats all month.

Practically speaking, events are scattered across local businesses rather than concentrated at one site, so check the official website for addresses and tickets. If you're driving, there's street parking plus paid lots; a lot at 700 12th St. SE gives you the first two hours free.

For travellers, this is a good excuse to see a side of Calgary most visitors skip. Inglewood sits just east of downtown along the Bow River, and its mix of heritage buildings, indie shops and coffee roasters makes it easy to fill a day before the evening's ghost stories begin. Even if you're not in town for Halloween season, the self-guided haunted walking tour is a low-cost way to get to know the neighbourhood's past.
