Canggu has no shortage of Japanese restaurants, but MYKAZA, the new opening on level two of The Arc House on Jl. Raya Batu Bolong, breaks the mould by adding a rooftop pool, sunset terrace and a DJ booth to the usual sushi-and-ramen formula. Think izakaya meets pool party — except the kitchen genuinely takes both halves of the fusion seriously.
The concept is Japanese technique built on Balinese ingredients. The team spent time eating at warungs, talking to local fishermen and working with things like sambal and jamu, and the menu shows it. The signature Babi Guling Dry Ramen tosses noodles through a bone broth reduction topped with ajitama egg and crispy shallots, channelling Bali's famous suckling pig dish. Other standouts include the Katsu Bali Curry, which swaps standard Japanese curry for a spicier, more fragrant Balinese version, and the Hamachi Miso Matah, where sweet den miso gets cut through with sharp raw-shallot sambal matah.
The space splits into two moods: a modern dining room with arched windows, leather chairs and manga-style art, plus a traditional tatami room with sliding doors and low floor seating for private groups. Out on the terrace, rattan sofas sit beside the pool, timed perfectly for Canggu sunsets.
The weekly Sunday brunch (11am to 3pm) is the big draw. It's all-you-can-order from a set menu — IDR 350K++ for food only, or IDR 738K++ for three hours of free-flow signature cocktails and Spritzes with a DJ playing. The brunch menu changes regularly, so check before you go. Highlights from the first round include Ebi Katsu Embe (crispy prawn katsu piled with Balinese fried-shallot sambal), a generously sized Chicken Sando worth sharing, and a Matcha-Miso Dadar Gulung that reworks the classic Indonesian crepe dessert. Drinks lean local too — the Spice of Island cocktail is a jamu-inspired mix built on Arak Bali, with tea-based cocktails as a lighter option.
Practicalities are easy: no need to be a hotel guest, walk-ins and reservations are both welcome, and there's free self-parking plus valet at The Arc House. Menus cater for plant-based, gluten-free and other dietary needs, with vegan and vegetarian dishes marked on the brunch card. The venue also handles private events and birthdays, with access to that rooftop pool.
If you're based in Canggu or heading there for a Bali break, MYKAZA fits two very different plans: a proper sit-down Japanese dinner with a Balinese edge, or a long, boozy Sunday by the pool. Book ahead for the tatami room if you're celebrating, and aim for the terrace around golden hour.
