You don't need a flight to Munich to spend October with a one-litre stein in hand. Abu Dhabi has stacked the month with Oktoberfest events across the city, from beach gardens and resort lawns to English pubs putting on lederhosen of their own. Here's what's on and what it'll set you back.

Starting early in the month, CRAFT by Side Hustle at The Galleria on Al Maryah Island runs the full four weeks (October 1–31), pairing Bavarian plates — pretzels, bratwurst, knackwurst, Wiener schnitzel — with small-batch beers brewed on site. Drinks start at Dhs38, and the house-brewed angle makes it a bit different from the usual lager lineup. Over at Park Rotana, Cooper's GastroBar runs October 1–15 with a dedicated German menu of pork knuckle, beef goulash and Black Forest cake, plus Dhs38 German lagers (Erdinger, Löwenbräu, Hofbräu, Krombacher) all day and Oktoberfest brunches on October 3 and 10.

If you want your Bavarian spreads by the water, Radisson Blu's West Bay Beach Garden packs its celebration into three nights, October 8–10, with a German buffet, live band and DJ, then a Sunday brunch on October 11. Buffets start at Dhs179, brunch from Dhs249. The Belgian Café at the InterContinental takes the longer route — ten days from October 16–25 with a Bavarian-inspired menu and live entertainment on selected evenings. That same weekend, The Club Abu Dhabi on Saadiyat hosts the most traditional setup of the lot: long communal tables and live brass from the Bavarian Camels, October 16–17, 7pm–10pm, at Dhs280 per person including free-flow German beers and food.

Mid-to-late month keeps going. Belgian Beer Café at Novotel Abu Dhabi Gate runs October 10–26, with weekday à la carte dishes, weekend buffet with live cooking stations, and DJ Sabrina Terence every weekend from 7pm. Packages start at Dhs99, or Dhs149 for buffet and beverages. Captain's Arms at Le Méridien — normally a British pub — goes Bavarian over two weekends, October 22 to November 1, Thursday to Sunday from 6pm, with a stein-holding contest, quiz and costume competition thrown in. B-Lounge at the Sheraton takes things alfresco in the palm gardens above the Corniche, October 30 to November 8, à la carte from 7pm. And Porter's English Pub at Grand Millennium Al Wahda wraps the weekends early in the month with drunches (October 2 and 9) and brunches (October 3 and 10) at Dhs399 with a buy-one-get-one-free offer.

For travellers, the takeaway is that Abu Dhabi's Oktoberfest scene is broader than expected — and noticeably cheaper than Munich, where tent seats and beer add up fast. Entry points range from a Dhs38 pint to a Dhs280 all-inclusive night, so you can sample the season without a big spend. Just note most events are in hotel venues, so booking ahead is wise, and alcohol is served only in licensed spots.
