Coffee has usually played second fiddle to wine when it comes to pairings. Sofitel wants to change that. The Accor luxury brand has teamed up with Nespresso for a limited-edition in-room experience that treats your morning brew with the same ceremony as a sommelier-selected vintage — except this one comes with a croissant.
The collaboration spans 20 Sofitel hotels worldwide, including Sofitel Los Angeles Beverly Hills, Sofitel Philadelphia at Rittenhouse Square, Sofitel London Heathrow, Sofitel Mexico City Reforma, Sofitel Barcelona Skipper and Sofitel Paris Baltimore Tour Eiffel. Sofitel pastry chefs worked with Nespresso coffee specialists to design three pairings built around flavour, aroma, texture and temperature, each served through the brand's Please Disturb in-room dining service with a final tableside flourish. And unlike a typical breakfast window, you can order any of them on demand, at any hour.
First up is L'Épicé, which leans into the classic coffee-and-dark-chocolate alliance with a tropical edge. The spicy chocolate coffee is made with oat milk, brightened by passion fruit and given a gentle kick of Sichuan pepper, matched with a coffee-chocolate croissant filled with ganache.
Le Tonique is the refreshing option: an iced espresso blended with sparkling tonic water and orange blossom notes, served alongside a Paris-Brest-style croissant stuffed with hazelnut praline diplomat cream and roasted hazelnuts. Think citrus, fizz and praline in one sitting.
The third pairing, Le Brûlé, plays almond against orange. A decaf cappuccino with a deliberately burnt, crème-brûlée-style finish and a light foam top is paired with a crispy honey cream croissant built from golden, honeyed layers. It's also the pick if you're avoiding caffeine late in the day without skipping dessert.
For travellers, this is a small but genuinely useful thing to know: if you're staying at one of the participating Sofitels, it's an easy way to upgrade an afternoon in your room or add a low-effort indulgence to an arrival day after a long flight. It costs nothing to check availability through in-room dining, and because it runs all day, it works just as well as a jetlag-proof 3pm pick-me-up as a morning treat. If you've got a stay booked at one of the 20 hotels, it's worth asking at check-in whether the pairing menu is active during your dates — it is a limited edition, so it won't run forever.
Who is it for? Anyone who likes the idea of a tasting menu but wants it delivered to a bathrobe. It's a clever bit of hotel theatre more than a revolution in coffee, sure — but between the Sichuan pepper and the torched cappuccino mousse, it's considerably more interesting than the standard drip-and-pastry basket.
