Toronto is easing into fall with a packed lineup for the September 25-27 weekend, and most of it is either free or cheap enough to justify a spontaneous visit.

The west-end warehouse at 75 Tycos Drive is the spot for bargain hunters, hosting two free-to-enter sales at once. Outdoor brand YETI is clearing stock on coolers and gear, while the NOCA archive sale — the label founded by Drake that supposedly never discounts — is opening its vault of tops, jackets and accessories in all sizes for men and women.

Down at the waterfront, a new project called Public Pier is turning Marina Quay West (539 Queens Quay W., next to the Toronto Music Garden) into a free day-to-night hangout on Friday and Saturday, 1 to 11 p.m., with food markets, DJs and line dancing against the backdrop of the Canada Malting Silos.

Music fans have the inaugural Second Summer Festival to catch, running Thursday through Saturday across several west-end venues from 5 p.m. until late. Tickets start at $71.37.

The Distillery Historic District is going German, with Oktoberfest running over three weekends at 55 Mill St. On Saturday and Sunday, the Black Forest Band plays Trinity Square from 2 to 5 p.m., with evening entertainment in the Pure Spirits Courtyard. If you want an early taste of Halloween, CF Sherway Gardens in Etobicoke is hosting Halloween Nights of Lights and Pumpkinville from September 25 through November 1: 1.5 million lights, midway rides, seasonal food and over 15,000 real pumpkins. There's also off-season skating at the Bentway (250 Fort York Blvd.), free if you bring your own skates, with rentals from $18.

For a zero-budget day, all 10 Toronto History Museums — from Fort York to Spadina Museum and Mackenzie House — now have free admission at all times, a permanent City of Toronto policy. And the classic end-of-day move is hard to beat: happy hour at The Drake (1150 Queen St. W.), daily from 4 to 6 p.m., with $13 cocktails and 30 percent off select menu items at the Sky Yard rooftop, Cafe Patio, Lounge or Modern Wing Lobby Bar.
