Hilton Honors is free to join and covers more than 9,000 properties across 27 brands — from Waldorf Astoria and Conrad down to Hampton and Hilton Garden Inn, plus the new Select by Hilton collection launched this year with Yotel as its first partner. That scale means almost wherever you travel, there's a Hilton that can earn you points.
The program runs on five tiers. Plain members get discounted rates, free Wi-Fi, waived resort fees on points stays and room selection up to 24 hours before check-in. Silver kicks in after four stays, 10 nights or $2,500 of spend in a calendar year, adding a 20% points bonus and a fifth night free on five-night awards. Gold (15 stays, 25 nights or $6,000) is the sweet spot: an 80% points bonus, space-available upgrades and a My Way benefit that usually means free breakfast or a daily food-and-drink credit. Diamond (25 stays, 50 nights or $11,500) bumps the bonus to 100% and unlocks executive lounge access, while the newer Diamond Reserve tier (40 stays or 80 nights plus $18,000 spend) adds guaranteed 4 p.m. late checkout and a confirmable suite upgrade at booking.
The real shortcut is credit cards. Select American Express cards hand out status automatically: the no-fee Hilton Honors card gets you Silver; the Surpass, Business and Amex Platinum cards get you Gold; and the Aspire card gets you straight to Diamond. Heavy spenders can climb higher — $40,000 on the Surpass in a year earns Diamond through the following year.
Not loyal to Hilton yet? There's usually a status match: show proof of elite status with a rival hotel program and you get 90 days of Gold. Six nights in that window locks Gold through March 31, 2028; 12 nights upgrades you to Diamond for the same period.
There are also milestone perks worth planning around. From 40 nights in a year you earn 10,000 bonus points, repeating every 10 nights, plus a 30,000-point bonus at 60 nights. Hit 60 nights and you can gift Gold status to someone else; 100 nights lets you gift Diamond. And at 120 nights you choose between 30,000 points or a confirmable upgrade reward.
Beyond regular hotels, Hilton Honors now reaches further afield. You can earn and redeem points at select Small Luxury Hotels of the World properties, where Gold members and above also get upgrades and continental breakfast for two. On Explora Journeys cruises, stays count toward Hilton status and tiered perks range from 5% savings to laundry service, experience credits and even a bridge tour for Diamond Reserve members.
Two changes to note: rollover nights are being scrapped from 2026 (anything rolled from 2025 still counts), and lifetime Diamond now requires 10 years of Diamond status plus either 1,000 nights or $200,000 of lifetime spend.
Why bother? Even a couple of Hilton holidays a year can reach Silver, and the Amex Platinum alone grants Gold — effectively free breakfast and upgrades at thousands of hotels worldwide.
