None of this makes O'Hare a bad airport — it's one of the most connected gateways in America, and its ongoing multi-billion-dollar expansion is gradually easing the pain. But for anyone routing a trip through Chicago, the takeaway is simple: pad your connection times, check gate maps in advance, monitor your airline app, and don't schedule anything in the city too soon after landing.
