Silversea's Silver Spirit has departed Lisbon on its Grand Voyage Mediterranean 2026, a 50-day luxury sailing running until 7 November that ends in Athens (Piraeus). The scale is the selling point: 40 destinations across 12 countries, taking in 48 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, all without a single flight change or hotel checkout.
The route reads like a Mediterranean greatest-hits list with a few curveballs. The opening leg runs from Lisbon through Morocco (Casablanca and Tangier) and the Strait of Gibraltar to Cádiz, Malaga, Valencia and Barcelona. From there it's the French Riviera via Sète, Marseille and Monte Carlo, then an overnight in Livorno and onward to Rome. The ship then works down Italy's coast to Naples, Amalfi and Sicily, crosses to Malta, and threads the Adriatic through Kotor and Croatia's Split, Zadar and Rovinj before reaching Venice. The final act covers the Adriatic and Ionian sides — Koper, Dubrovnik, Corfu, Olympia and Crete — then the Aegean, with overnight stays in Thessaloniki-adjacent Volos and Istanbul before closing in Athens.
Three overnights — Malaga, Livorno and Istanbul — anchor the itinerary, plus a run of experiences aimed at the sort of access money usually can't buy. Two stand out: a two-day Florence overland that includes after-hours visits to both the Uffizi and the Accademia (meaning Michelangelo's David with no crowds), and a private evening of music and dining inside Istanbul's Şerefiye Cistern, a fifth-century Byzantine reservoir built under Emperor Theodosius II. Elsewhere there's a sherry and tapas class in a Jerez mansion, a cliff-carved cellar visit at the Marisa Cuomo winery in Amalfi, volcanic Assyrtiko tastings in Santorini, and rare access to two of Meteora's clifftop monasteries.
Silver Spirit itself was refreshed before departure. The big addition is Silversea's S.A.L.T. (Sea And Land Taste) programme — a restaurant, bar and hands-on test kitchen built around regional food and wine — plus Riviera, a new open-air poolside venue serving coastal seafood and Mediterranean wines.
For anyone tempted but not ready to commit to 50 days, Silversea has confirmed the format is here to stay: a Grand Voyage Mediterranean 2027 aboard Silver Dawn, plus Asia and South America Grand Voyages in 2028 aboard Silver Muse and Silver Ray. Segments of these long itineraries are typically bookable individually, so shorter sections of the route are worth investigating even if a full circumnavigation of the Med isn't practical.
Who's this for? Travellers with the time and budget for slow, deep touring — the kind who'd rather see 48 UNESCO sites from one suite than pack and unpack a dozen times. If that's your style, the 2027 and 2028 editions are the ones to watch.
