Thailand's hotel game just got another stamp of approval. In the 2026 Michelin Key selection, the country now has 71 recognised hotels and resorts, cementing its spot among Asia's top hospitality destinations.
The headline move is Capella Bangkok, promoted to Three Michelin Keys — the guide's highest hotel distinction and one only a handful of properties worldwide hold. Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui was elevated to Two Keys, giving the Thai island another luxury benchmark.
Thailand's full 2026 breakdown reads: six Three Key properties, 22 Two Key hotels and 43 One Key properties. Fifteen hotels enter the selection for the first time (14 of them at One Key level), and five were promoted to higher distinctions. For travellers, that means even boutique and under-the-radar stays across the country now carry an internationally recognised quality mark — from Bangkok riverside resorts to island escapes in the south.
The Thai news sits within a much bigger global announcement. Michelin's worldwide selection now spans 2,832 Key hotels across 79 countries: 155 Three Keys, 657 Two Keys and 2,020 One Keys. This year added 470 new hotels and more than 80 promotions.
Four Special Awards went further afield. Desert Rock Resort in Umluj, Saudi Arabia took the Architecture & Design Award for a property carved directly into the Hijaz Mountains. Germany's Schloss Elmau Luxury Spa Retreat & Cultural Hideaway won the Wellness Award for its unusually broad spa and cultural programme. Airelles Palladio Venice — the brand's first hotel outside France, overlooking the Giudecca Canal — was named Opening of the Year. And Londolozi Game Reserve in South Africa's Kruger area picked up the Local Gateway Award for decades of connecting guests with the region's landscape and wildlife.
