After months of running on a reduced setup, the Capital One Lounge at Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD) is reopening in full on September 18 at 11 a.m. ET. The closure of the main space was tied to infrastructure and ventilation work aimed at fixing temperature consistency issues, so the lounge can stay comfortable through both steamy DC summers and cold snaps.

For travellers who passed through Dulles during the works, the interim setup was a workaround rather than a proper lounge: a dedicated food counter outside the main space, some hot dishes, grab-and-go items and a small cafe-style seating area. From reopening day, that all goes away. Eligible visitors get the run of the full 8,500-square-foot lounge again, including proper seating, a coffee bar, a grab-and-go section, a full bar and a buffet with both hot and cold options. The layout and design themselves haven't changed — this was about the systems behind the walls, not a redesign.

Access rules are unchanged. Venture X and Venture X Business cardholders get in free with a departing flight within three hours. Guests cost $45 per adult and $25 per child aged 2 to 17, with under-twos free. There's a sweet spot for big spenders: primary cardholders who put at least $75,000 on their Venture X or Venture X Business in a calendar year earn two free guests per visit for the rest of that year plus the following one. Venture X cardholders can also add lounge access for up to four authorized users at $125 per user per year (the same $125 rate applies per user on the Business card), while holders of the standard Venture card can pay their way in at $45 per person, or $25 for anyone 17 or under.

The timing matters beyond Dulles. Capital One has been building out its lounge footprint quickly — it opened a Capital One Landing at New York LaGuardia earlier in 2026 and has announced a 14,000-square-foot space in Charlotte that will become its eighth location. For anyone who flies through Dulles regularly, though, the immediate takeaway is simple: one of the better card-linked lounges at IAD is operating at full strength again, in time for the busy autumn travel season.

If you're flying out of Dulles in the coming weeks, it's worth checking which terminal your departure uses and building in a little time before boarding — the lounge works best as a pre-flight stop rather than a sprint from security. And if you've been weighing a Venture X application mainly for lounge perks, the Dulles reopening plus the growing network makes the card's access proposition noticeably stronger than it was a year ago.
